In September, Ibiza and Formentera experienced a remarkable boost in tourism-related hiring, especially for permanent seasonal workers, with a 54.4% increase compared to 2022. This resulted in a record-breaking 3,063 permanent seasonal contracts. Hiring in the region overall increased by 14.6%, contrary to the usual September decline, driven mainly by the hospitality industry. The number of permanent contracts in this sector surged by 77.2%. Unemployment continued to decline across sectors, with the construction industry reaching historically low levels. There were 850 long-term unemployed individuals and 795 individuals over 55 years old without work. In summary, September was an exceptional month for hiring in the Pitiusas, driven by tourism, resulting in decreased unemployment in various sectors.
