Ibiza Carnival Parade 2023: dates and schedule information

As the Carnival draws near, the vibrant rúas of Ibiza are on the horizon. Across the island, each municipality boasts a unique, colorful parade that’s celebrated with the same vivacity as always, but at varying dates and times. To partake, interested parties must register within the designated municipality before the deadline.

Rúa de Sant Antoni

On February 21st, the people of Portmany will have the opportunity to partake in the traditional Tuesday Carnival festivities. The parade will commence at 5:00 p.m. from Doctor Fleming Avenue and proceed down Portmany Avenue, Passeig de ses Fonts, and Passeig de la Mar before circling back to its starting point.

The awards ceremony for the best costumes in the different categories will be held at the end of the parade in the Passeig de ses Fonts. In total, 9,600 euros in prizes will be distributed in the municipality.

The jury will be formed by representatives of different associations or entities of the municipality, which will take into account, at the time of scoring, aspects such as originality, creativity, recycling, animation, elaboration of the float or costume making.

Rúa de Vila

On Sunday, February 19th, the carnival parade will take place in Vila at 11:30 a.m., but with a modified route from previous years due to ongoing construction on Avenida Isidor Macabich. Instead, the parade will follow a new path along the avenue of Sant Josep, Avenida de España, and Avenida de Ignasi Wallis, culminating in front of the Es Pratet sports center.

Yesterday marked the conclusion of the registration process for the Vila carnival event, and the City Council has allocated a total of 12,000 euros, to be awarded across seventeen prizes, to the best costumes of the event.

Sant Josep Street

The streets of Cala de Bou are once again set to be overtaken by stunning costumes, as the upcoming carnival event approaches. The parade will take place on February 18th, starting from the parking lot in front of the Zafiro restaurant on Sant Agustí Avenue, 118 at 11:30 am, and moving down the Sant Josep street.

The deadline for registration to participate in the parade is open until Wednesday February 15 and can be made both at the Town Hall and in the municipal offices of Sant Jordi and Cala de Bou, as well as in the electronic headquarters of the municipality.

As reported by the City Council of Sant Josep, 6,000 euros in prizes will be distributed, doubling the amount that was delivered so far, in the five categories to contest that will value the judges: school comparsa, school float, general comparsa, general float and individual or mini group. Prizes will be awarded to the three best costumes in each category.

Rúa de Sant Joan

The upcoming Sunday, February 19th, the municipality of Sant Joan will be hosting their carnival event. Participants wishing to showcase their finest costumes or enjoy the parade should arrive at 5:00 p.m. The parade will follow the same path as previous years, along the main street of the village of Sant Joan, and loop around the parking lot behind the church.

Santa Eulària street

The Santa Eulària parade will coincide with the Sant Antoni parade on Carnival Tuesday, February 21st at 5:00 p.m. The parade is expected to continue until approximately 8:00 p.m.

According to the municipality’s council, the carnival parade in Santa Eulalia will commence at the parking lot adjacent to the Palacio de Congresos. The participants will begin the procession by making their way down César Puget Riquer street (the starting point of the road to Es Canar), continuing along a brief stretch of José Guasch Vich street, and linking with Sant Jaume street. The parade will continue along this street until it reaches s’Alamera and Plaza de España, where it will conclude.

Carnival in Formentera

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Formentera carnival parade is finally set to return on February 19th in Sant Ferran. The parade will begin at 12:00 p.m. in front of the village’s Espai Cultural, proceeding along the main streets. The procession will commence on Tarragona street and then continue on to Joan Castelló street, which will eventually lead to Guillem de Montgrí street. Next, the parade will make its way to the children’s park, where it will then turn onto the Main Street and cross the Church Square, ultimately returning to the starting point of the procession.

The Culture and Festivals department of the Consell de Formentera is encouraging Formentera residents to prepare their costumes in anticipation of the upcoming carnival event.
