This year, the Holy Week celebrations in Santa Eulària, Ibiza, are expanding with the introduction of two new events: a saetas contest scheduled for March 23 and a Procession of Silence on Easter Monday. The procession, inspired by the former parish priest Marcelo Gabriel Jofré, is organised by the Puig de Missa Cultural Association and its president José Guasch. This new addition features the Nazarene Christ carried on the shoulders by 16 bearers, a change from its usual presentation on Good Friday. The procession will begin post an 8 p.m. mass, weaving through the streets to eventually circle back to its starting point. Another highlight is the saetas contest, aiming to enrich the Holy Week program and encourage wider participation. Despite these new additions, there’s an expressed need for fresh faces in the brotherhoods, with around fifty new members joining this year, many from diverse international backgrounds. The Holy Week will commence with the procession by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Hope and will feature various processions, including the Palm Sunday and Good Friday events, without altering the traditional routes.
