A significant sewage spill began last Monday at Marina Ibiza, causing a widespread stench and environmental concern. The spill, which is described as the largest this year, has covered the entire water surface of the marina, rendering containment measures like floating barriers ineffective as the fecal matter mixes with the water. This incident is reportedly not linked to the old wastewater treatment facility but originates from a pipe near the marina’s dry dock. The Department of the Sea and Water Cycle has confirmed that there has been no spill from the sewage treatment plant or its facilities. Meanwhile, preparations for the new Sa Coma wastewater treatment plant are ongoing, with completion delayed until next August. This situation has led to complaints from marina users, particularly those staying overnight on their boats, due to the unbearable smell and water conditions.
