Around fifty people demonstrated on Constitution Day yesterday morning against the new regulations requiring a Covid passport in restaurants with more than 50 people, among other establishments. The demonstrators made their presence known in the centre of Vila, mainly Vara de Rey and the Plaza del Parque, where they marched with their messages and banners, surprising those who happened to be in the area at the time. Their chants – “Covid passport, unconstitutional!” – mingled with the Christmas carols playing in the area at the time. “Today is Constitution Day, the only means we have to defend our freedoms,” said Ángel Ruiz Valdepeñas, the denialist doctor from Formentera who was suspended by the Balearic Medical Association and who led the protest at one point along the route. “The so-called Covid passport violates many constitutional rights,” continued Ruiz Valdepeñas, who was followed by the rest of the people taking part in the demonstration, organised through social networks. Movimiento por la Verdad, Ibiza Moviliza and Ibiza Breathes called on their followers to join the protest. “It violates the right to privacy, the data protection law,” said the spokesperson. “And ideological freedom,” said one of the attendees.
