The production of waste in Ibiza last year reached a total of 104.680 tons, which means 600kg per capita, the highest figure by far in the Balearic Islands: 35% more than in Mallorca (445kg per person), 47% more than in Menorca (407kg) and 39.5% more than inFormentera (430kg). The Balearic average stood at 463kg in 2020, 24% less than in 2019 as a result of the effects of the covid health crisis. The decline in Ibiza stood at 27%, the largest also recorded in the whole of the islands of the archipelago. In Mallorca waste production fell by 24%, in Menorca by 20% and in Formentera by 21%.

Improvement in Ibiza in 2021
In any case, the general director of Waste, Sebastià Sansó, pointed out that this year in Ibiza there should be an increase in the selective collection of waste (for the first time organic matter is also separated) after the launch late last year of the new sorting plant in the Ca na Putxa landfill. Ibiza is the only island of the archipelago that is above the target set in the new Balearic law on waste and polluting soils for 2019, which stipulated that before this year the mass production of waste should be set at 473kg per inhabitant. However, the report acknowledges that this target has been missed due to the drop in activity due to the pandemic. For the full article, please visit Diario de Ibiza website here.
