As announced on Tuesday in an update of the travel restrictions for its nationals on the British Executive’s website, the Foreign Office states that it “advises against any non-essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic Islands but excluding the Canary Islands, based on the current covid-19 risk assessment”. The British press has been quick to react to this announcement, with many newspapers claiming that this list of destinations hints at the places that will be included on the famous ‘green list’ that could be announced at the end of this week, which will allow Britons to travel to certain areas without having to complete a 14-day quarantine on their return. According to Sky News, Foreign Office reports suggest that the ‘green list’ could include a dozen countries, although some other media claim it could be fewer than 10. Several mention Malta, Gibraltar, Portugal and Israel as possible destinations, while the Daily Telegraph claims that Spain, Greece and France could be added by the end of June, in a second addition.
