Paco Jémez’s first game as UD Ibiza coach on the island is tomorrow against bottom Alcorcón, and he has a double mission: to achieve his second consecutive victory after the triumphant debut in Fuenlabrada (1-2), and to reclaim the Can Misses Stadium, which the Ibizan team has not won since beating, precisely, the Fuenlabreo team 3-1 in the twelfth round of LaLiga SmartBank. Since that October 23rd, the light-blue squad had two draws and three defeats in front of a fan base that celebrates more victories on television than in person. Not in vain, UD Ibiza is the third worst home team in the Second Division, with only 11 of the 33 points played on Ibizan land during the first round of the championship retained. With two wins, five draws, and four defeats, the islanders are only two points ahead of Alcorcón, who have seven points, and Real Sociedad B, who have only conserved six points on Txuri-urdin territory. Fans of the newly-promoted side had grown accustomed to leaving with a good taste in their mouths in past seasons, but in the Second Division, things have changed. The Celestes made their debut in the category with three consecutive draws (Malaga, Amorebieta, and Oviedo) in the former fortress of Vila, and it wasn’t until the seventh day that they left the three points at home in the fight against Burgos (2-0). The first defeat came on October 17 against Mirandés (0-2) and, more recently, defensive lapses, lack of accuracy, the VAR, and penalties stymied the Ibizan team against Tenerife (0-0), Almera (0-1), Ponferradina (0-1), Girona (1-1), and Sporting de Gijón (0-2), the latter defeat costing the coach from La Rioja his job.
