The Andorran driver Raúl Ferré left an indelible mark yesterday after his spectacular performance through the Pujada a Sa Cala, which yesterday put the finishing touch to its 36th edition with records, excitement, accidents and crowds of spectators in the ditches of the mythical Ibizan mountain rally climb.

The official Speed Car driver flew over the uphill course of Sa Cala to smash the historic record for the event held by the Automóvil Club de Ibiza, setting the best time for the 4.3 kilometre climb at one minute, 56 seconds and 613 hundredths of a second. The Andorran beat the record in the third run, after having improved in the second run the previous record set in Saturday’s qualifying race by the Asturian Javier Villa in 01:59.840.

The race was once again attended by the public on the slopes of Sa Cala after a 2020 without fans due to the pandemic. JUAN A. RIERA
The fight between the two was brutal in the ‘classic’ of the Pitiusas motor. The Langreo Club driver was on the heels of the Andorran in his BRC BR53 and second place guaranteed him the title of the Campeonato de España de Montaña in category II, which brings together the larger cars.

Not surprisingly, the reigning Spanish champion, Ferré, set a top speed of 123.48 km/h in the third and final race, to the fervour of the large crowd gathered in Sa Cala. Miguel Ángel Campins completed the podium of the national appointment in the top category. The Ibizan Damián Verdera closed the competition with his Talex M2 20 seconds behind the overall champion.
