The countdown is on for Ibiza’s nightclubs to open their doors after a long two and a half years. “It’s an important weekend and we hope that everything works well”, says the manager of the Asociación Ocio de Ibiz, José Luis Benítez.

In spite of the problems that the different sectors are encountering when hiring professionals, the manager of the Association affirms that the staff for the opening parties of the nightclubs are complete. “We have moved some workers from other premises, recontracting them so that they can lend a hand,” he explains. However, he points out that the problem will come in the next few weeks. “People are always interested in coming to work and then they back out because they are not compensated,” he adds. Benítez mainly refers to the high cost of living on the island to which the high price of rent must be added, which is even more notable this year. “And the salaries in leisure are interesting ,” he says. The average salary of a waiter is around 1,800 euros, “without counting the tips, which are quite striking in this sector,” he says.
