Espardenyes Torres was established in 2016 by two artisans, Patry and Isabel, who learned to craft espardenyes, or traditional Ibizan espadrilles, using the techniques of old. The two artisans honour an ancestral tradition, from a time when there were no machines or shops to purchase footwear.
Isabel Prats, a renowned Ibizan artisan, originally created espardenyes for her family and friends. However, as demand for this unique footwear grew, she realised she couldn’t keep up on her own and proposed to Patricia the idea of starting a business.
Since then, this small family-run enterprise has become part of the internationally recognised Adlib Moda Ibiza fashion brand.
Espardenyes Torres Adlib shoes embraces the modernisation of espardenyes, reinventing and updating them to make them more appealing to both women and men. By incorporating embellishments such as flowers and introducing new types of soles, like wedges and platforms, they bring fresh perspectives to the design. They have also added vibrant colours and small decorative touches as key features, creating a balance between innovation and the preservation of Ibiza’s traditional essence.
Espardenyes Torres has an online store and in summer it is present in the most typical markets in Ibiza.
Although the exact origins of this footwear are unknown, there are records from 1910 documenting Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria wearing them during one of his visits to Ibiza.
Espardenyes were exclusively used in Ibiza and not on the other Balearic Islands, a unique characteristic that has cemented their reputation as typical Ibizan espardenyes.
