In the hills of northern Ibiza, near the peaceful cove of Sant Miquel, stands a luxury villa unlike any other. Surrounded by the sea and wrapped in lush gardens, the estate of Sa Ferradura is one of the most expensive and exclusive in Europe.
The story of this Ibiza luxury villa is deeply connected to one of Russia’s wealthiest and most enigmatic figures: Mikhail Prokhorov. Business tycoon, former NBA team owner, political candidate, and investor in global healthcare and sport, Prokhorov’s presence on the island offers a glimpse into Ibiza’s ultra-private world.
A luxury villa hidden in plain sight
Although many refer to Sa Ferradura as a private island, this stunning property is in fact a peninsula. Linked to the main island by a narrow isthmus, it gives the illusion of complete isolation while remaining just minutes from local roads and charming inland villages.
At the centre of this extraordinary estate lies a 1,100-square-metre mansion designed to blend privacy, comfort and world-class architecture. The villa features panoramic terraces, a full wellness suite, tropical gardens, a cliffside infinity pool and direct access to the sea.
This Ibiza luxury villa is available to rent for around €300,000 per week in high season and €250,000 during quieter months, a reflection of its unmatched exclusivity. It has hosted private celebrations, corporate retreats and international guests seeking serenity in one of Europe’s most desirable destinations.
The man behind the villa: Mikhail Prokhorov
Born in Moscow in 1965, Mikhail Prokhorov built his fortune in metals and mining, eventually becoming the world’s leading producer of palladium nickel and a major figure in Russia’s gold sector. His financial empire, Onexim Group, has extended its influence across media, banking, energy and real estate.
Prokhorov became internationally known in 2010 when he purchased a majority stake in the New Jersey Nets, later rebranding them as the Brooklyn Nets and moving the team to New York. He remained involved in the franchise until 2019, when he sold his final shares.
In 2012, Prokhorov ran as a candidate in the Russian presidential election, challenging Vladimir Putin and finishing third. Unlike many of his peers, he has kept his distance from the Kremlin, a fact that has shielded him from international sanctions in recent years.
With Israeli citizenship and deep investments in private healthcare, including two hospitals in Israel, Prokhorov has built a global profile as both a businessman and philanthropist. He is also known for his involvement in sport through CSKA Moscow and the Russian Biathlon Union.
A strategic investment in Ibiza
Prokhorov purchased the Sa Ferradura luxury villa in 2013 for an estimated €33 million. The property is officially owned by Sunshine Ferradura SL, a Spanish company managed through Hydrus Investments S.A.R.L. in Luxembourg, where Prokhorov is registered as the sole administrator.
At the time of acquisition, the company received a capital injection of €36.4 million via another of Prokhorov’s firms based in Sweden. Today, the estate is valued among the top luxury villas in Europe and has recently returned to the market, attracting global attention once again.
The yacht that turned heads in Ibiza
Prokhorov’s love for discreet luxury extended beyond the land. For years, he was the owner of Palladium, a 95-metre superyacht often seen moored in Ibiza’s marina. Worth approximately $200 million, it became one of the most striking vessels in the Mediterranean.
Despite its grandeur, Prokhorov rarely used the yacht, reportedly due to seasickness. He eventually sold it to American entrepreneur Dennis Washington, who renamed it AV and continues to sail it under his ownership.
A different side of Ibiza
While Ibiza is widely known for its beaches, nightlife and traditional villages, it also hosts some of the world’s most luxurious and private properties. Villas like Sa Ferradura represent another layer of the island, one that attracts global investors, celebrities and visionaries like Mikhail Prokhorov.
Surrounded by cliffs and pine forests, with views stretching into the horizon, Sa Ferradura remains one of the island’s most desirable and mysterious addresses.
