Founded in 1916 by Joan Bonet, Barreteria Bonet began when Joan returned from Argentina and purchased the hat shop where he had previously worked.
Located at Carrer del Comte de Rosselló, 6, it has remained in the Bonet family for over a century. After Joan and his wife Maria laid its foundations, the business was passed down to their son, and eventually to their granddaughter Virginia Bonet in the 1990s. Under her care, the store continues to radiate it’s charm, preserving the original furnishings and machinery.
Today, Barreteria Bonet welcomes both locals and tourists, offering a diverse range of hats that blend traditional artistry with modern design. Most hats are sourced from Spanish manufacturers, ensuring authenticity and support for local industry. Prices range from €20 for simple models to €300 for finely handcrafted pieces.
In recognition of its historical and cultural significance, the shop was awarded the Medalla de Oro by the city of Ibiza in 2015. It is also officially recognized as an Emblemàtic establishment by the Balearic government and is featured in guided tours celebrating the island’s heritage.
Over the decades, Barreteria Bonet has also been a cherished social hub—where neighbors gather, and generations connect. Its reputation for quality and authenticity has even drawn the likes of public figures such as footballer Dani Carvajal. More than a store, it is a living piece of Ibiza’s cultural fabric.
