Cala Saladeta is a serene and picturesque beach located on the western coast of Ibiza, near the bustling town of Sant Antoni de Portmany. This small cove is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, featuring crystal-clear turquoise waters and soft golden sand. Unlike some of the island’s more commercialised beaches, Cala Saladeta remains a peaceful spot, offering a retreat for those looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in nature.

Cala Saladeta is accessible primarily from its larger neighbour, Cala Salada. To reach Cala Saladeta, visitors must park at Cala Salada, where parking is available, though it can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. From the parking area, a short but somewhat rugged walk over rocks and through a pine forest leads to Cala Saladeta. This walk can take around 10 minutes and offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean along the way.

Due to the uneven terrain, it may not be suitable for everyone, especially young children or those with mobility issues. Alternatively, visitors can take a boat from Sant Antono, which provides a scenic and leisurely way to access the beach without the hassle of parking.

Beach features and atmosphere

Cala Saladeta is relatively small, measuring around 80 metres in length and 25 metres in width. Despite its size, it offers a tranquil and idyllic atmosphere, with pristine, calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkelling. The beach’s crystal-clear water and shallow entry make it ideal for families with children, though the lack of nearby facilities means visitors need to bring their own supplies, including food, drinks and sun protection.

Due to its remote location and natural surroundings, Cala Saladeta has no amenities, such as showers, toilets or sunbeds. There is, however, a restaurant and basic facilities at Cala Salada, which is just a short walk away. Most visitors to Cala Saladeta choose to bring their own picnics and spend the day relaxing on the sand or exploring the underwater world with snorkelling gear.

Is Cala Saladeta suitable for families?

Cala Saladeta can be a great spot for families with older children who enjoy nature and a bit of adventure. The calm, shallow waters are perfect for swimming, and kids can explore the rocks and cliffs surrounding the beach. However, parents of very young children should be cautious, as the path to the beach can be challenging, and there are no lifeguards or amenities directly at the cove. Additionally, shade is scarce, so bringing umbrellas or finding protection from the sun is essential.

While Cala Saladeta is not as developed as other beaches on the island, it is still an excellent spot for some water-based activities. Snorkelling is particularly popular here, thanks to the clarity of the water and the abundance of marine life. Visitors can also enjoy paddleboarding or simply swimming in the refreshing sea. However, more structured water sports like jet skiing or parasailing are not available directly at the beach.

Moreover, the surrounding area of the cove offers excellent opportunities for hiking, allowing visitors to explore the natural beauty of the landscape.

When to visit

Cala Saladeta can get crowded during the peak summer months, particularly in July and August, so arriving early in the day is recommended to secure a good spot. Many visitors also suggest staying later in the afternoon to enjoy the stunning sunset, as Cala Saladeta’s west-facing position offers a perfect view as the sun dips into the horizon.

In summary, Cala Saladeta is a secluded and natural beach offering a quiet escape from the more commercial parts of Ibiza. While it lacks modern amenities, its natural beauty and peaceful environment make it an ideal destination for those looking to relax and enjoy Ibiza’s stunning coastline in a more tranquil setting.
