December brings a full schedule of sports events to Ibiza and Formentera, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the islands through local traditions, community gatherings and energetic competitions. Whether you enjoy running, cycling or simply witnessing grassroots sport in action, these four events stand out for their atmosphere, accessibility and strong local identity.
1. XLVI Mini Marató – Memorial John Tunks (7 December 2025, Formentera)
One of Formentera’s most established sporting traditions returns in early December: the XLVI MINI MARATÓ – Memorial John Tunks, held in Sant Francesc Xavier. The event combines a main running race, a skating category and junior competitions, creating a journey where the town centre fills with movement and anticipation.

Designed to make participation easy
The running race begins at 10:30 a.m., followed at 10:40 a.m. by the skating category.
To make the event accessible for those staying in Ibiza, the organisers offer a free shuttle service between La Savina port and the start line. The 9 a.m. transfer connects with the 8:15 a.m. Balearia ECO ferry from Ibiza, while the 1:30 p.m. return bus aligns with the 2 p.m. ferry back to the main island. A second vehicle leaves at 9:45 a.m. for those starting the 2.8 km race in Sant Ferran.
This level of organisation means visitors can join the event without worrying about transport or navigating the island on their own.
Registration and inclusive categories
All registrations are handled via elitechip.net until 6 December at 12:00 a.m. Younger age groups—from SUB-18 to SUB-6—may register onsite between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. The entry fees reflect the event’s focus on encouraging participation:
- 15 € general entry
- Free for all under-16 participants

Formentera’s community-first approach makes this race an excellent opportunity for visitors to see the island from a different angle, surrounded by athletes of all ages and backgrounds.
2. Cursa de s’Indiot (14 December 2025, Ibiza Town)
The Cursa de s’Indiot is one of December’s most dynamic events in Ibiza Town, bringing competitive road cycling and family-friendly sport together. Organised by the Consell Insular d’Eivissa with the technical support of Ibiza Blue Challenge, it draws cyclists of all levels.
A competitive 42 km urban circuit
The main race starts at 9:30 a.m. outside Can Misses stadium and consists of 42 kilometres on a 4.7 km circuit, completed nine times. The route passes through key streets including Campanitx Street, Albarca Street, Es Cubells Street, Xarraca Street, Sant Josep Avenue and Avinguda de la Pau. Only road bikes are permitted, and the race has a maximum of 175 participants.
The atmosphere is fast, focused and energetic, with the sound of shifting gears and the sight of riders accelerating through each lap creating an engaging experience for both competitors and spectators.

A mini race focused on younger athletes
At 11:10 a.m., the mini race begins, open to:
- Children under 15
- Participants with reduced mobility or special needs
Distances range from 150 metres (for the youngest ‘sin pedales’ category, born 2023–2024) to 5 kilometres (for the older ‘infantil’ category, born 2011–2012). Participants may use either road or mountain bikes.
Registration is free, making this event especially appealing for families visiting Ibiza at this time of year.

3. XVIII Cursa de sa Salsa (21 December 2025, Sant Josep de sa Talaia)
The Cursa de sa Salsa, held in Sant Josep, offers a welcoming, community-centred sporting experience. Its combination of junior races and a short-distance adult event makes it accessible to a wide range of participants.
A route that highlights local surroundings
Children’s races begin at 10 a.m., followed by the adult 6 km race at 11:15 a.m. The route is a circular loop starting and finishing inside the football field and passing through:
- Avinguda del Diputat Josep Ribas
- Camí de ses Fonts
- Camí d’es Verger
- Carrer de c’as Vildü

The event provides a clear sense of Sant Josep’s landscape: quiet residential roads, open views and a relaxed rural atmosphere that contrasts with Ibiza Town’s busy streets.
Registration details
Registration remains open on elitechip.net until 19 December at 9 p.m.. Entry for Juvenile categories and above costs 10 €. Bib numbers must be worn on the front throughout the race.

4. Pujada a la Catedral (31 December 2025, Ibiza Town)
Ibiza closes the month with the Pujada a la Catedral, a family-friendly climb through the historic streets of Dalt Vila. Starting at 4:30 p.m. from Es Martell in the port, participants make their way upward through the old town until reaching the cathedral.

A festive but relaxed event
