Benirràs, a captivating beach located on the north-west coast of Ibiza, is a must-visit for those looking to experience the island’s natural beauty. Nestled between pine-covered hills, this sheltered bay is renowned for its stunning sunsets, clear waters and the iconic rock formation known as ‘Cap Bernat’ or ‘the Finger of God’. This rock, which rises majestically from the sea just off the coast, adds a mystical allure to the beach and creates a breathtaking silhouette against the vibrant colours of the sunset.

Getting Benirràs

Benirràs is easily accessible by both car and public transport. If you’re driving, the beach is about a 10-minute drive from the nearby village of Sant Miquel. However, during peak season, particularly from June to the end of September, access by car is restricted. During these times, visitors must park at the designated Sa Plana car park in Sant Joan and take a shuttle bus to the beach. This service is a convenient way to avoid the congestion that often occurs as the sun begins to set.

For those using public transport, several bus routes connect major towns like Ibiza Town, Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària and Portinatx to Benirràs. These routes also stop at the Sa Plana car park, making it easy to reach the beach without the need for a car.

There are two car parks available at the beach, with a total capacity of around 400 cars. However, during the summer months, these fill up quickly, so it’s advisable to arrive early if you wish to secure a spot. Alternatively, using the shuttle bus service is a stress-free option.

Beach facilities and services

Benirràs offers a range of facilities to ensure a comfortable visit. The beach itself is a mix of pebbles and coarse sand, with rocky areas at both ends, making it ideal for snorkelling. Sun loungers and parasols are available for hire and there are lifeguards on duty, making it a safe environment for families with children.

The beach’s natural setting provides ample space for children to play, though the pebbly sections might require some extra care for younger kids. The mix of sand and rocks offers a diverse environment for exploration, whether it’s building sandcastles or discovering marine life.

Although there are no showers available on the beach (they have been turned off to conserve water), Benirràs compensates with other amenities. You’ll find a selection of restaurants and bars offering Mediterranean cuisine, including fresh seafood and local specialities. Notable establishments include Restaurante 2000, known for its delicious paellas, and Elements Ibiza, which offers a range of Mediterranean dishes, natural juices and even massages.

For those interested in shopping, a small hippy market operates on most days, selling a variety of handcrafted goods, fashion items and accessories. This market adds to the bohemian vibe that Benirràs is famous for.

Additional activities

Benirràs is a haven for water sports enthusiasts. The crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkelling and the rocky sea bed offers a fascinating underwater landscape to explore. However, be mindful that the beach is partly pebbly, so water shoes might be a good idea if you plan to spend a lot of time in the water.
